Lynn Gui finished first, Chris Chen was second, and Jarrod Vetzel was third in the Baylor junior class' Poetry Out Loud competition on Thursday. 

Gui recited "Curandera" by Pat Mora, Chen performed "Beautiful Wreckage" by W. D. Ehrhart, and Vetzel presented "For the Climbers" by Kevin Craft. 

Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. Students choose a poem, memorize it, and present a performance that reflects their understanding of the poem. The national finals are held in April at The George Washington University.

Nine other Baylor juniors participated in the competition including Zoha Ahmad, Rebecca Atkins, Andy Gooch, Chris Hinton, Lexie Laurendine, Grayson Panter, Sam Reynolds, Jack Tucker, and Maiya Workman.
