Ernest “Clyde” Allen passed away peacefully on February 23, 2017, after living with Alzheimer’s for several years.

Clyde was born on Aug. 21, 1933, in Chattanooga, to Hazel and Ernest Allen. A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, Clyde graduated from Central High School in 1951 and attended classes at University of Chattanooga.

Clyde worked in industrial sales for Volunteer Bearings and Owen Richards before starting his own company, Industrial Sales and Engineering, Inc., a manufacturing supply business.  Clyde enjoyed the challenges of the changing market place and used his creativity to keep his business relevant over a number of decades.   He was a handyman of handymen, adept at everything from installing plumbing and wiring to overseeing top to bottom home renovations. He also enjoyed years of boating; playing music on his Hammond organ and harmonicas, reading history and biography; and charming people with his inimitable humor.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jennie Timmons Allen, daughters, Debbie (Gene) Wilbourn and Annette Allen (John Shearburn), seven grandchildren, Nathaniel Luttrell, Tyler Luttrell, Brodie Luttrell, Dillon Luttrell and Delaney Cantrell and Emily Shearburn and Claire Shearburn; four great-grandchildren, Kalissa Luttrell, Aria Luttrell and Ella and Jenna Gil; his brother, Don Allen; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers at Alexian Brothers Valley Residence, The Lantern at Morning Pointe, Life Care Center of Hixson and Avalon Hopsice and extends special thanks to Delaney Luttrell, Viktoryia Malashiy and Ethan Cohen for their loving care.

The family will receive visitors at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church on Signal Mountain.  A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow.  A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements under the direction of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist-North Chapel, Hixson, Tn.
