Scenic City Clay Arts Has Moved To Downtown Facility At Arts Build; Grand Opening March 11

  • Wednesday, March 1, 2017

Scenic City Clay Arts has moved downtown to the Arts Build building on 11th Street. A Grand Opening reception will be held on March 11.  The community is invited to an Open House from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with an evening reception from 4-7 p.m.  There will be food, beer, wine and clay.

SCCA is a non-profit, community pottery studio serving Chattanooga and the surrounding area. The organization’s mission is to sustain the art and craft of all things clay through education, practice, and the provision of an affordable workspace for beginners, as well as experienced artisans.

“Our vision is to gather dozens of diverse people in the downtown area to connect, create, and celebrate through the approachable medium of clay,” said David Chambers, executive director. “We believe that art can create change and help us build a more inclusive, empathetic, and just community. Besides, it’s fun.”

"We now have spring classes available for registration at www.sceniccityclayarts.org.
Classes offered include beginning and intermediate wheel classes, and beginning hand building classes during the day. We are also offering a class by internationally known Artist Mark Issenberg.

"Scenic City Clay Arts is positioned at the intersection of some of Chattanooga’s most racially and economically diverse urban neighborhoods. The vision for SCCA is to become a community hub and common ground for everyone," officials said.
