Ronald Evans
Ronald “Giant” Evans of Chattanooga, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017, at Erlanger Hospital.
Ron played for the University of Chattanooga Moccasins basketball team from 1978-1980 under Ron Shumate. He worked for the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department for 37 years until retirement.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Lillian Esterrell Evans; son, Jonathan Omari Evans; brothers, Ricky (Shuronda) Evans of Nashville, and Larry Evans of Buffalo, NY; mother- in-law, Ruth K. Williams; brothers-in-law, Gregory (Diana) Williams, Cornel (Phyllis) Williams and James (Donna) Williams; sisters-in-law; Frances Hester and Emma Wilkerson; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The body will lie in state from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at Greater Tucker Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18, at noon at the church with Pastor Gary Hathaway officiating. Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
