Upcoming Events At The Hunter Include Coming To America

  • Monday, March 20, 2017

Here are upcoming events at the Hunter Museum of American Art:

The Hunter Museum will welcome artist Alex Loza as he and Hunter curators discuss several works of art in the exhibit Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art. It will be held Thursday from 6-7 p.m. Following the discussion, Alex will do a live drawing demo inspired by the works discussed.

A collective of Chattanooga's refugee and immigrant communities share their stories about their journeys to the U.S. at Coming to America: Stories of Journeys North to the United States.  It will be held Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the Hunter Museum.  There will be a group discussion, and guests will also have an opportunity to visit the current exhibit Our America. This program is presented in partnership with Coming to America: The Story of Us.

The Hunter welcomes all who have lost a loved one and are seeking a space for reflection and support to Art of Hope.  It will be held Wednesday, March 29, from 12-1 p.m. This program will be held in front of a permanent collection painting by George Inness, allowing participants to explore their own memories and hopes for the future. Hunter staff and bereavement counselor Cathy Meyer of Avalon Hospice will guide participants in a safe, secluded space, said officials.

Art Alive will be Thursday, March 31, from 6-7 p.m.  Hunter curators and Mattie Waters and Jules Downum of Zanzibar Studio will use movement to explore the Hunter's largest collection piece. The performance is free to the public.

Dia De Diversion Familiar Family Day will be Sunday, April 2, 2-4 p.m. Participants will explore "Our America" and dance, sing, create, play, build, learn stories, and experience art. This Family Fun Day will welcome all families as part of our exhibit  Our America: The Latino Presence in American Art.
