GREENEVILLE, Tenn – Cleveland State traveled to Tusculum College and swept their hosts in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
The Cougars (18-7, 5-4)took game one 6-0 and then claimed game two in a 7-1 win.
“We swept a doubleheader at Tusculum behind Ryan Lloyd and Jared McDaniel in game one and Grant Crosby and Elijah Haynie in game two,” Cleveland State head coach Mike Policastro said.
“Offensively we were able to do most of our scoring in two innings in both games It felt good to get back to playing well going into the conference series at Columbia State.”
Cleveland State will be in Columbia this weekend, playing at 3 and 5 p.m.
on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
In game one, Cleveland State picked up their first run in the top of the first and then scored five more in the top of the fourth inning.
A single from John Hennen, who was 3-for-3 at the plate, resulted in an error that allowed him to reach second while Noah Hill scored. The fourth saw slugging action from Billy Brand, Trey Vanderpool, John Anderson and Hill.
“Billy Brand had a two-run single in the fourth inning,” Policastro detailed.
Lloyd (3-1) threw in five innings, striking out five and giving up two hits. McDonald came in for the final two innings, where he struck out four and gave up two hits.
In the second game, Cleveland State once again picked up all its runs in two innings.
The Cougars scored six runs in the top of the fourth and both teams score a run in the sixth.
Brett Browning was 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, Brandon Mason was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Hooper Mills was 3-for-4.
Trey Martin, Sean Coakley and Brandon Mason all had an RBI in the game as well.
Crosby (3-2) pitched in six innings, striking out six and giving up three hits. Haynie closed out the seventh inning.
