World War II Navy Veteran Retired From Dixie Yarns

Edd L. Utley of Signal Mountain died Wednesday, March 22, 2017, he was 90.

A native of North Carolina, he had lived on Signal Mountain for the past few years. Prior to retirement, Edd had been employed by Dixie Yarns in Chattanooga as Controller for 25 years. 

Earlier he had been employed by Burlington Industries in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Edd was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served our country in the U.S. Navy Air Corp during World War II. He was a member of Signal Crest United Methodist Church. 2 Timothy 4:7 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.”

Edd was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Henry “Jack” Utley and Ruby Porter Utley; and his brother, Robert Gerald “Hank” Utley.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 50 years, Patricia McInturff Utley; two sons, Stanley Porter Utley, Wilmington, NC and Timothy Phillips Utley and wife Linda of Red Bank, Tn.; and six grandchildren, Porter, Baxter, Joshua, Amber, Rachel and Mary Grace.

There will be a private graveside service with military honors at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, March 27, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Mark Scott officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
