The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s outdoor track and field team will head to Atlanta to compete in the Emory Classic this weekend.
“We are excited to compete in this meet this weekend,” Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said. “We’ve got a good block of training and are looking for significant improvement from our performances at JSU.
“We are slowly getting kids into more specific event focus and working on developing our racing skills.”
Freshmen Rebekah Wich (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Sydney Gilliam (Brentwood, Tenn.) will open the meet for Chattanooga with their first attempt at the 5000 meter run in the outdoor season. Wich placed 15th in the distance at the Southern Conference indoor championships.
The women’s 1500 meter run will follow featuring junior Anna Kate Chance (Columbia, Tenn.) along with sophomore Haley Morris (Lenoir City, Tenn.) and freshmen Hannah Caldwell (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Nicole Buehrle (Sugarloaf, Pa.).
This will be the first run at this distance for all four Mocs. Last season, Chance recorded a personal best in the 1500 meter at the Alabama Relays. Morris posted her PR last season at the War Eagle Invitational.
Freshmen Maddie Christian (Lenoir City, Tenn.) and Julia Henderson (Brentwood, Tenn.) along with sophomore Brianna Nelson (Jefferson, Wis.) will run the 400 meter. Junior Hannah Chamblin (Memphis, Tenn.) and freshmen Abby Bateman (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and Kennedy Thomson (Catharine’s, Ontario) are slated for the 800 meter run while sophomore Mercedes Bright (Kingsport, Tenn.) and freshmen Kelsey Henry (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) and Taylor Sawyer (Chattanooga, Tenn.) will wrap up the individual events with the 200 meter dash.
Three Chattanooga teams are scheduled to compete in the 4x400 meter relay to wrap up the track events on Saturday.
