Creative Discovery Museum Opens Summer Camp Registration

  • Friday, March 24, 2017

Creative Discovery Museum combines play, exploration and camp with multiple opportunities throughout the summer for kids ages four through 14. From Fun with Eric Carle to Camp Riverbend!, there are many camp experiences to choose from.

Creative Discovery Museum and Riverbend Festival have partnered to present Camp Riverbend. For the first time, the Museum is offering a camp for older children ages 10-14. Campers will investigate the Coke Stage at Riverbend as they go back stage and work with sound and lighting professionals. Artists performing at Riverbend will spend time with the campers and answer music industry questions. They will explore Songbirds Guitar Museum during a field trip. And to top it off, campers will step into the spotlight themselves as they sing or play on stage. Camp Riverbend goes behind the scenes of the music industry June 12-16 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. This once in a lifetime camp experience is $195 for Museum members and $225 for non-members.

"We are very excited to be working with Riverbend Festival to offer this incredible experience to middle-school aged kids,” said Suzanne Ness, programs manager at Creative Discovery Museum. “This camp is perfect for a child who is constantly singing, playing an instrument or even interested to see what goes on behind the scenes in the music industry.”

“What young person doesn’t dream of being on a stage at some point?" said Chip Baker, Friends of the Festival executive director.  "This is the perfect way to share the spotlight and give them a chance to learn the highlights and fun side of music production.  Creative Discovery Museum is the perfect partner for sharing the mystique of Riverbend with our young people.”

The featured theme for several of the Museum’s summer camps this year is related to the popular upcoming summer exhibit, Very Eric Carle: A Very Hungry, Quiet, Lonely, Clumsy, Busy Exhibit. Campers will work through his books with science experiments, art activities, kitchen lessons and more.

“Creative Discovery Museum camps are exceptional opportunities for children to have an awesome summer experience,” said Ms. Ness. “Our science-based camps are always filled with activities that bring science alive for children. Our preschool camps provide a great first taste for the littlest campers in our area. Our experienced staff provide a fun-filled, safe environment for children to embrace the summer camp experience.”
