Glenn Horne
Glenn Dwight Horne, 84, went home to be with the Lord on March 24, 2017, at his Soddy Daisy home surrounded with love from family.
After serving in the Navy for four years during the Korean War, he went to work for DuPont and retired after 32 years of service. While working at DuPont and into his retirement, he owned his restaurant, Horne’s, for 25 years. He met many people and made many friends through his restaurant, and will always be remembered for the awesome burgers and pulled pork he served. He relished the time he spent coaching men’s softball for many years, and prided himself in the teams and men he had playing. He enjoyed his time, spending it with family and friends, keeping his yard mowed, drinking his coke, and playing his guitar. He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Mae Gann Horne; father, John Wesley Horne; brothers and sisters, Vretta, Alvin, Harold, Madge, Quinton, Glothia, Roxie, Estelle, and Floyce; and house cat, Mama Grace.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lometta “Doe” Horne; children, Kevin (Sandy) Horne and Sheri Horne VonSchaaf (Bill Tharpe); grandchildren, Amanda (Gregg) Tate, Ashley VonSchaaf (Jeramey Case), Wesley Horne, and Allie Horne; great-grandchild, Gunner Tate; sister, Jewell Woodward; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 26, from 1-4 p.m. with the funeral directly following at Legacy Funeral Home, with Brother Vernon Sneed officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to Avalon Hospice.
Arrangements are by Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Soddy Daisy, 843-2525.
