The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team scored a 5-2 win at Western Carolina today. The Mocs improve to 12-4 overall and 2-1 in Southern Conference action with today's win.
UTC won the doubles point, and the first three singles matches, to quickly clinch the team win. WCU dropped to 11-7 overall and 0-3 in SoCon action.
Senior Rachele Gazzola and Samantha Caswell won their fifth in a row to improve to 9-3 at No. 1 doubles. Sophomores Delaney Edwards and Sydney Patton clinched the opening point with a win at No.
2.
Edwards, Caswell and sophomore Caroline Hall won at the top of the lineup to give the Mocs a 4-0 lead. Gazzola had the other singles win on the day.
"WCU came out fighting so we had to pick our game up and really execute," stated UTC head coach Chad Camper. "Being 12-4 and 2-1 in the SoCon is a great feeling but there is more room to improve."
The Mocs were scheduled to travel to Wofford tomorrow, but due to weather concerns, that match is postponed until Sunday, April 9. On another schedule note, the Samford match has been moved off Easter Sunday to Friday, April 14 at 1:00 p.m.
