The Nashville Predators took on the San Jose Sharks at Bridgestone ArenaSaturday evening. The night began with a quick ceremony honoring Predators goalie Pekka Rinne for his 500 games played in the league. Rinne said after the game, “it was something that I’ll remember for sure.
I never once thought growing up that I would play 500 games in the NHL.”
Head coach Peter Laviolette remarked, “He’s been here for a long time and he’s given this organization many good years and quality work that has allowed them to be successful.”
Rinne was presented with a plaque, a silver hockey stick, and a gift from his teammates. The gift was presented by team captain Mike Fisher, who missed his second-consecutive game Saturday due to a lower body injury.
Taking Fisher’s place has been forward Colton Sissons. Sissons scored the first goal of the game against the Sharks, and would again score in the third period.
“Hopefully I can continue this hot streak as long as I can. It feels pretty good. We’re winning hockey games and getting crucial points. That’s the main goal for us," said Sissons.
James Neal also netted two goals for the Preds Saturday night. The 7-2 win against the Sharks gave Nashville a perfect sweep of their three-game home stand. Next they face off against the New York Islanders on the road. With eight games left in the regular season, the Preds are currently third place in the Central Division, behind the Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild, both of which have secured their places in the playoffs.
