Sanders, John Clayton (Decatur)

John Clayton Sanders, 98, of Decatur, went home to be with the on Lord Sunday, March 26, 2017, at his home.

He was a member of Elk Creek Baptist Church in Cumberland City, Tn. He was a former scout master for the Boy Scouts of America and a life member of VFW of Harriman Post 6598. He served in WWII from 1941 to 1945 and was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, 6 Battle Stars, American Defense Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Purple Heart.

John was a son of the late Harold C. and Dora Williamson Sanders. He was also preceded in death by his wife Ruby Olene Sanders, brothers; Charles W. Sanders, Clarence Boyce Sanders, one sister; Dora Dean McCart, one grandchild; Sherry Sanders.

Survivors include his sons: Harold A. Sanders of Cumberland City, TN, Charles A. Sanders of Riceville, TN, John A. Sanders of Decatur, TN, daughter; Vickie D. Sanders Scherzer of Spring City, TN, brothers; Ray Sanders, William Bill Sanders, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. There are several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, in the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home with the Reverend Max Redman and Dylan Sanders Officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mt. View Memorial Gardens, Decatur, TN.

The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at Bowers Funeral Home.

Pallbearerswill be John H. Sanders, Dylan Sanders, Jacob Sanders, John A. Sanders, Charles Sanders.
