Stephen Carter
Stephen Thomas Carter, 75, died peacefully, while surrounded by family on Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Chattanooga.
Steve was a loving husband and father who enjoyed reading, movies, amusement parks, golf, and watching football and tennis. Steve was born in York, England and grew up in Nebraska. He was a proud graduate of Georgia Tech. He spent his career as an actuary at UnumProvident in Chattanooga and Companion Life in Columbia, S.Carolina. Steve had recently returned to Chattanooga to enjoy his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years Sandy Carter; daughter, Susan Hughes and husband, Brent; daughter, Janey Rice and husband, Robin; son, Jonathan Shore; son, Andrew Shore; daughter, Hayley Carter; grandsons, Jack Hughes and Adam Hughes; granddaughter, Ava Rice; brother, Ralph Pike and wife, Julie; father-in-law, Clyde Cooper Sr.; sister-in-law, Lisa Rue and husband, Robby; brother-in-law, Clyde Cooper Jr. and wife, Sharon; nephews and nieces, Matthew Pike, Michael Pike, Wesley Rue, Paige Rue, Riley Cooper, Miles Cooper; and numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Pike; and mother-in-law, JoAnn Cooper.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 28, from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 29, from 10-11 a.m.
The funeral service will be on Wednesday, March 29, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Charlie Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood East Memory Gardens.
