Blood Assurance Blood Assurance Still In Critical Need Of Blood Donors

All Blood Types Currently in Need, Especially Types O Negative, O Positive

  • Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Blood Assurance is asking the community to stop by a local blood donor center or mobile blood drive as soon as possible to help replenish the universal blood supply. With donors travelling for spring break and continuing illnesses affecting community members' ability to donate, the organization critically needs help to supply local hospital patients with blood donations that are needed. Blood Assurance thanks the community for stepping up to meet the needs of hospitals across the region.

Presently, the organization needs all blood types, especially types O Negative and O Positive. Each donation of blood contains plasma, red blood cells and platelets that can be used to save lives of any age, including premature babies, oncology patients, trauma victims, surgery patients and many more. Patients undergoing surgery, receiving cancer treatment or organ transplants rely on donated blood, in addition to the unexpected traumas seen at hospitals on a daily basis.

As a thank you for donating blood, all donors will receive a Boy Scouts themed T-shirt. To be eligible to donate blood, participants must be at least 18 years old (17 and 16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids - avoiding caffeine - and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating.
