The triennial celebration of African-American Achievers Hall of Fame will be held Saturday, April 29, at noon at the Chattanooga Trade and Convention Center.  This event is sponsored by Deltas Serving Together, Inc., an independent 501(c)(3) foundation established to support local educational and community empowerment projects.

The 2017 Achievers Hall of Fame luncheon is a service project to honor outstanding community achievers.  While the event pays tribute to retired and current achievers with outstanding service, and provide scholarship assistance for educational and medical majors, a key objective is to show youth that careers in education and medicine are viable, profitable and rewarding career choices, said officials.  The long range goal is to encourage African American students to become teachers, principals, counselors, superintendents, nurses, doctors, dentists, psychiatrists, physical therapists, and more.

This year’s recipients include educators, administrators, business executives, financial consultants as well as a public servant, doctor, nurse, attorney, clergy and coach.  A special award is being presented to Rev. Paul A. McDaniel, pastor emeritus of Second Missionary Baptist Church.  Additionally, DeSTI will recognize local area students as future achievers.

For more information, or to reserve a corporate or family table of eight by April 13, or single $40 ticket, call Sandra Derring, ticket chairperson, at 280-3226 or Francine Brown, program chairperson, at 488-4160 or email AchieversHallofFame@gmail.com.

Serving as chairperson of the 2017 Achievers Hall of Fame committee is Linda Thomas. Attorney Ardena Garth Hicks is president of DeSTI.
