Addie Lee Dozier, 86, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at her residence.

She was born in Rome, Georgia on September 16, 1930. She was the proud daughter of John Henry West and Adline Anthony.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Eddie James Dozier, and three sons, Robert James Dozier, Gerald DeWayne Dozier and Gregory Dean Dozier; and her parents, John Henry West and Adline Anthony Johnson; grandparents, Will Anthony and Rosanna (Christopher) Anthony; mother and father-in-law, Lee Dozier Sr. and Willie Mae Dozier; son-in-law, Eddie Lee Kellum, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Labernice Dozier; and granddaughter, Shantay Dozier.

Addie was educated in Chattanooga Public Schools. She was a graduate of Howard High School. She held certifications in Upholstery and Catering. She and her husband E.J. were the owners and operators of Dozier’s Upholstery Co. for 30 years and Dozier’s Catering Service for 25 years.

In addition to Addie’s busy life as an entrepreneur, she managed to raise four sons and one daughter.

Addie loved her community and was an active member of the Glenwood Neighborhood Association and was also a certified Parliamentarian for the State of Tennessee. She was the founding President of Glenwood Business and Professional Women’s Club, The Tennessee Political Education Association, and Hamilton County Democratic Woman Club. She received numerous awards and certificates; however, she was most proud of leading the charge of getting CARTA to establish a bus route to Chattanooga State Community College. She was honored by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Chattanooga Chapter as a pioneer woman.

Addie accepted Christ under the leadership of Brother CL Caperton. She and her husband were young and excited to work in the church. Her work consisted of being the wife of a minister and elder, and also a Sunday school teacher for many years. Addie enjoyed fundraising and organizing trips for the youth. She was currently a member of East Third Street Church of Christ.

Just a little past 5 o’clock in the evening, on Monday, March 27, 2017, Addie slipped away peacefully and departed her earthly life for a mansion, robe, and a crown with our heavenly father. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Theresa (Vickie) Kellum and son, Clifford Lawrence Dozier; 9 grandchildren, Kim Kellum, Terri Dozier, Michael (Tracee) Dozier, Regina (Marcus) Bradford, Timothy Vaughn, Eddie Kellum, Robert (Dana) Dozier, Clesha Johnson, and Tiffany (Dallas) Humphrey; two daughters-in-law, Carolyn and Betty Dozier; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Lue Knowles, Eugene (Winifred) Dozier, Mary Dozier, Clifford (Janelle) Dozier, and Gloria Dozier; 22 great grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; life-long friends, Ethel Pruitt and Jewel Sparks and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation is Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 6-7 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be Sunday, April 2, 2017 at 1 p.m. in the chapel with Brother John R. Taylor, Sr. as the eulogist.

Burial will be Monday, April 3, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Forest Hills Cemetery.
