Frances Payne
Frances Loretta Kilby Payne, 87, passed away on March 5, 2017, at Southern Manor Living Center in Fayetteville, Tennessee.
Frances was born to Carl Harvey and Mary Kilby and raised in Tracy City, Tn.. She also lived in South Pittsburg, where she raised her family, and Chattanooga, where she lived for 35 years.
Frances was a devout Episcopalian and avid churchgoer who actively supported her church communities throughout her life. A talented seamstress, Frances made everything from her family’s wardrobe to wedding dresses and men’s suits. She was an accomplished tennis player, and won a women’s senior tournament in Chattanooga in her early 70s. Always sociable, Frances never knew a stranger. She loved talking to people and visiting with her friends and family.
Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Everett Payne, to whom she was married for 65 years.
She is survived by three daughters: Janie Craig (Larry) of Fayetteville, TN; Mary Marsh (Pat) of Shelbyville, TN; and Lynn Poffo of Seminole, FL. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Amy Damstrom (Scott) of Spring Hill, TN; Lindsay Wiles (Tripp) of Hollywood, S.C.; Jim Craig (Libby) of Fayetteville, TN; Rob Marsh (Katherine) of Shelbyville, TN; John Marsh (Bea) of Shelbyville, TN; Noelle Fox (Keith) of Palm Harbor, FL; Devon Anderson of Largo, FL; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers at Southern Manor Living Center.
Visitation with the family begins at 11 a.m. EST on Saturday, March 11, with the service to follow at 12 p.m. EST at St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church, 7547 E. Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421.
