Lee Tennis Team Earn Wins

 The Lee University tennis teams completed an undefeated spring break trip with matching 9-0 victories on Thursday. The Lady Flames (4-1) beat Minnesota Duluth (7-7) for their third win of the week, while the Flames (5-2) claimed their fifth consecutive win with the shutout of John Carroll University (1-4).
The Lady Flames and Flames return home to the DeVos Tennis Center on Mar. 15 to face Shorter University. The Gulf South Conference matches are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
 
LADY FLAMES 9, MINNESOTA DULUTH 0
 “We wanted to finish strong and the girls did a nice job of accomplishing that,” said Lee head coach Patric Hynes.
“It was pretty warm and it was good to see our energy stay high throughout the match. This easily could have been a problem match for us, but the ladies were ready to play today.”
Ana Webber and Laura Beth Hardesty blanked Mikayla Gottwalt and Rachel Menke at No. 3 doubles. Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto were 8-5 winners over Shelby Benkofske and Drew DeCorsey, while Krista Good and Joanna Grzegrzolka defeated Katie Baasch and Karly Weber 8-2.
Lee won all six singles matches in straight sets without allowing their opponents to win more than two games in any set.
Tondi was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Megan Anderson and Webber clinched the team contest with a 6-1, 6-0 score against Jillian Klasen.
Grzegrzolka won both sets against Kelsey Zetah by 6-1 margins. Hardesty beat Menke 6-1 and 6-0. Garcia-Nieto handed Elsa Erickson a 6-0, 6-1 defeat and Good outscored Macey Telljohn 6-2 and 6-2 to complete the shutout.

 “It’s been a great week,” Hynes said. “John Carroll are a good program and they made us scrap for every point. To walk out of here with a 9-0 score is a satisfying end to our spring break trip.”
Jake Okines and Boyd Blackburn put Lee on the right track with an 8-1 mark over Gustavo Garcia and Dillon O’Brien. Wes Lemke and Daniel Prata added to the lead with an 8-3 win over Nick Siciliano and Tyler Cole, while Rhys Milne and Igor Schattan held off Jad Abdul-Aal and David Sinense 8-5 to give Lee a 3-0 lead going into singles competition.
Blackburn was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Alex Guthrie and Lemke knocked off Scott Adsit 6-0 and 6-3 at No. 6 singles to secure the team win.
Schattan beat Siciliano 6-2, 6-0 in the third position. Milne needed a 7-4 tie-breaker to claim his opening set againt Abdul-Aal befored finishing the match with a 6-4 mark in the second set. Prata and Cole split 7-5 scores in their first two sets before Prata held on for a 12-10 win in the third set.
Teodor Deljanovski won the first set against Garcia with a 9-7 score in the tie-breaker. Garcia fought back to take the second set 6-4 and Deljanovski finished the match with a 10-6 super set triumph.
