Turkuaz Appears At Revelry Room April 18

There won’t be a rainout this year when Turkuaz comes to Chattanooga on Tuesday night at the Revelry Room. They were scheduled to appear at Riverbend last year, but high winds and rain forced a rare cancellation for the festival. Each year at Riverbend, I have “the one band” that I really want to see the most, and Turkuaz was it. I did get to hear a few minutes of their sound check, but that only made me more eager to see them. Riverbend tried to bring them back in 2017, but the band had already committed to Bonnaroo.

A nine-piece funk band from Brooklyn, New York, Turkuaz would best be described if you had love child spawned from Here Come The Mummies and Earth, Wind, and Fire. Here is what The New Yorker magazine said - "This Brooklyn-based nine-piece delivers horn-filled funk incorporating elements of R. & B., psychedelic pop, gospel, Afro-pop, New Wave, classic rock, and just about any genre that gets people dancing."

They are appearing Tuesday, April 18 at the Revelry Room in Chattanooga, located in the Chattanooga Choo-Choo complex. Organ Freeman is opening. Tickets are available at this link.

Here’s my suggestion for an enjoyable evening – come early and take a tour of Songbirds Guitar Museum, also located in the Choo-Choo complex, grab a bite to eat at one of the area eateries, and then catch the show at 8 p.m. Any calories devoured at dinner will be gone by the evening’s end with the dancing you will do at Turkuaz’s show.

I give Turkuaz my highest recommendation, five stars, reserved for only the best of the best.
