Samuel “Sam” Houston Humbard, 87, of Cleveland, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a devoted husband, father and papaw that loved his family very much. Sam was a lifelong resident of Bradley County and a known and respected custom home builder and master craftsman of the Southeast. He was the former President of the local home builders association and National Director. He was also a former member of the local planning commission. He was of Baptist faith and deacon at Echoes of Mercy Baptist Church. One of his favorite quotes was from John Wayne, “Tomorrow hopes we have learned something from yesterday.”
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Samuel Pearl and Clara Hicks Humbard; father and mother-in-law, V.C. and Edna Geren Elliott; sisters, Rosene Dunn and Lorene Barnard; daughter, Jill (Humbard) Lewallen; and brothers-in-law, Bob C. and Paul T. Elliott.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Joy F. Humbard; two children, Deborah J. (Tony) Kimsey and Samuel W. (Susan) Humbard, all of Cleveland; sisters-in-law, Nell Elliott of Franklin, TN and Patricia Elliott of Tampa, FL; brother-in-law, Sam Elliott of Seffner, FL; grandchildren, Lacey (Chris) Bailey of Cleveland, Jenni (Tony) Giannourakis of Cleveland, Josh Lewallen of Colorado Springs, CO, Chelsey Kimsey of Boston, MA, Anna Humbard of Knoxville, TN, Chay (Alisha) Kimsey of Cleveland, Samuel Colton Humbard of Cleveland, Aaron Howard of Knoxville, TN, Chris (Summer) Howard of Ooltewah and Brandon (Kim) Howard of Mauldin, SC; great-grandchildren, Danetta, Illyana and Giorgio Giannourakis, Hailey, Mason, Kaydence, Ava, Thomas and Parker Howard; and several nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
The service will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with the Reverends Earl Gentry, Sam Melton and Daniel White officiating.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 24, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Eddie Moreland, Chay Kimsey, Tony Giannourakis, Colton Humbard, Dennis Elliott and Rick Cawood serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Robinson, Jerry Graham, Charlie Stinnett, Keith Hall, Chris Howard, Brandon Howard, Brent Elliott, and Jack Easterly.
His family will receive friends from 3:00-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 22 at the Fike-Randolph Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangements.
