Ellen Lucille Gibson Miller, 89, of Chattanooga passed away peacefully Friday, April 28, 2017, surrounded by family.  She left this Earth to reside with her Lord following the tenet of Isaiah 40:31, "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint."

Ellen was born Jan. 1, 1928, to Noah and Effie Gibson of Laurel, Ms. She married Thomas L. Miller, Sr., on May 7, 1949.  Residing in Pascagoula, Ms., she was employed as a telephone operator by South Central Bell and then Singing River Hospital.  She followed the Lord throughout her life in relationship to congregations of the Assemblies of God, First Presbyterian Church of Pascagoula, Ingalls Avenue Baptist Church, and finally Red Bank Baptist Church of Chattanooga.

Ellen and Tom moved to Chattanooga in 2005, having been victims of Hurricane Katrina.  They resided at 415 Forest Glenn Drive, until health issues necessitated their move to the Manorhouse Assisted Living Facility.

Ellen was a devoted wife of 65 years, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother; always placing the needs of her family above her own.  She was an avid gardener and deeply enjoyed being outdoors.

Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Miller, Sr.; her parents; four brothers: John Thomas Gibson, Noah Clifton Gibson, Dewey Gibson, Homer C. Gibson, and two sisters: Katherine Rykbos, and Merle Gibson.  She is survived by her son Rev. Thomas L. Miller, Jr. (Linda) of Meridian, ID; her daughter Ellen Miller Matulich (Chris) of Chattanooga; four grandchildren: Tiffany Godbehere (Stephen) of Chattanooga; Lesleigh Odell (Jeremy) of Windermere, FL;  Alyssa Matulich of Chattanooga; Kelli Matulich of Dallas, TX; and six great grandchildren: Drew Godbehere, Maddie Godbehere, Ethan Godbehere, Jon Ryan Godbehere all of Chattanooga; Emily Odell, and Bentley Odell of Windermere, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

In honor of Ellen, the family expresses its gratitude to the caregivers of the Manorhouse and Manorhouse Pavilion and to the Avalon Hospice for their compassionate and responsible care of her during her long battle with Alzheimer's.

A funeral service will be held in the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrance on Wednesday, May 3, at 1 p.m., followed by interment in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.  Dr. Sam Greer and Reverend Tom Miller will be officiating.

The family desires that contributions to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org be made in lieu of floral gifts.

Condolences may be shared on the Lane website at www.lanefh.com.

All arrangements are by Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tn.
