The Covenant baseball team suffered a 27-4 non-conference loss to Berry on Tuesday afternoon at William R. Bowdoin Field in Rome.

The loss for Covenant drops the Scots to 12-18 overall. Berry completes the season sweep with the victory and moves to 17-13 overall.

Joel Johnson went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Scots and extended his hitting streak to 14 games in the process. It's the longest hitting streak for a Scot since David Lockwood hit in 16 straight in 2013. Caleb Bloye and Trenton Nobles also went 2-for-4 each, while Devin Cerrato had two hits in three at-bats.

Covenant got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the top half of the first inning.
The Scots loaded the bases with two away and Donny Lewis came through with a two-run double that plated Bloye and Luke Harvey for a 2-0 lead.

Berry scored two runs in its half of the first and then five more in the second to grab a 7-2 lead. The Scots cut into the deficit with two runs in the third as Nobles delivered an RBI single before Alex Kerr lifted a sacrifice fly to left that brought in Johnson to make it 7-4.

The Berry offense exploded in the later innings to blow the game open. The Vikings got 10 runs in the seventh and eight more in the eighth to take the victory.

Grant Kierpa (0-4) got the loss on the mound for Covenant. Seven different pitchers were utilized by the Scots. The 27 runs allowed are the most in the modern era of the program's history.

Berry had 29 hits on the day and Slade Dale collected a team-best four RBIs. JT Eggert (2-2) came on in relief and threw two innings to pick up the victory.
