Brooke and Hope Mizell were key players Friday in McMinn County’s 6-5 victory over visiting Ooltewah in District 5-3A softball action in Athens.
It was believed to be McMinn County’s first win ever against Ooltewah.
Hope Mizell, a senior, gave up four first-inning runs, but settled down and held the Lady Owls scoreless over the final four innings as the Lady Cherokees (9-9, 3-1) rallied.
She finished with a six-hitter.
Brooke Mizell, a freshman left fielder, went 2-for-2, including a home run, and drove in four runs while scoring twice. She lead the Lady Cherokees’ nine-hit attack.
Kayla Boseman and Mabry Carpenter each had two hits for Ooltewah (8-3, 2-1)
