Robert N. “Bob” Hookey, 72, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, died on Monday, May 1, 2017 in a Chattanooga hospital.
The son of the late Joseph Wheeler and Zell Katherine Coburn Hookey, he was a retired employee of TVA having worked in their coal power plants in Paducah, Ky., Gallatin, Tn., and for many years at Widows Creek in Stevenson, Al.
Bob was a beloved citizen of South Pittsburg, most recently having been honored by SVEC members in the Tennessee Magazine, “In recognition of his commitment to preserving the history of South Pittsburg.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Clayton, Donald and Jerre Frank Hookey; sisters, Bertha Houchins and Bettie Rogers; and grandson, David Crawley.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sally Powell Hookey; children, Amy (Roger) Crawley of Soddy Daisy, Jamie (Shane) Moore of Clarksville, Tn., and Joseph (Jeannine) Hookey of South Pittsburg; grandchildren, Brooke (Ty) Craig, Morgan and Jake Crawley, Corey (Leah) Layne, Joey Layne, Derek (Brooke) Layne, Erica (Jonathan) Butler, Jacie Layne, Rebecca Moore, Nathan, Reagan and Carter Hookey; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Hookey; sister-in-law, Linda Cartwright, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from the South Pittsburg Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 3, at 3 p.m. Central time with Reverend Joe Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Patton Annex Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, May 2, from 4-9 p.m. Central time at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the South Pittsburg Historic Preservation Society.
