Alicia Lockett, a Brainerd High School graduating senior, will be entering the career of education and attending Alabama A&M University. Her goal as an English teacher is to "educate students and inspire them to become confident and literate lifelong learners.”
At the Brainerd High School Senior Awards Banquet held on Monday, Ms. Lockett received two scholarships totaling $900 from local Kappa Kappa Iota Gamma Chapter members and the Psi State Tennessee Lucille Shugart Scholarship.
Presenting the scholarship awards to Ms. Lockett were Sylvia Greene, Gamma Chapter Scholarship chair, and Christine Hockert, Gamma Chapter treasurer and second vice president of National Kappa Kappa Iota.
Psi State TN received its charter on Feb. 11, 1967. Lucille Shugart was the first president and founder. The scholarship in her honor is awarded to high school seniors planning to enter the field of education.
Judy McCready, president, Psi State Tennessee, said that she is proud to be a member of National Kappa Kappa Iota and the scholarship opportunities available for educators as well as for those who are entering the field of education. The purpose of this organization is to promote the advancement of education by providing an effective network for the exchange of education and teaching practices by educators.
