Poor Paving Job On U.S. 27 - And Response (4)

  • Thursday, May 11, 2017

At 55 I have seen a lot of road work - especially resurfacing. It has been standard practice to run a street cleaner on the road being repaired to get up the dirt, fines and rock left over from removing the surface.

I am on Highway 27 daily. Every car is stirring dust and dirt. My truck windshield got hit multiple times today as I headed downtown.

The road crew has not cleaned the surface at all. Adherence by the new surface will be poor. Someone needs to make sure the contractor is doing a good job. The road contractor needs to be held responsible for vehicle damage. This is our tax dollars being spent.

Highway 27 is an absolute war zone like something from the Mad Max Fury Road movie.   Rocks. Dirt. Dust. Debris. Cars weaving everywhere.

My truck has a nice new crack in the  windshield where a heavy rock bounced off it on Tuesday.  Estimate for replacing the windshield is a cool $400.   Am I obligated to pay this?

Highway 27 was fine, I can think of a hundred roads in this burg that needed repaving more than this one.  Who is in charge of this?

Ditto on the news about Highway 27 not being swept properly.

Excellent views on this problem.   I suggest those who are angry, fed up, exasperated, or dumbfounded contact Ray Rucker at the TDOT.

A flurry of complaints might be a future resource Mr. Tucker can reflect on when planning another highway paving project.

Yeah, and good luck getting anything out of the Wright Brothers construction or TDOT.  My pristine 2005 4runner got damaged because their crews didn't clean road debris from all that construction on Highway 27 a couple of years ago, from Olgiati Bridge up.  I contacted both TDOT and Wright Brothers but was given the run around.  Over $500 worth of damage but wasn't given any consideration.

Now my wife's car (now my daily driver) has several paint chips (over two dozen) and counting at least seven chips in the window plus one scratch.  What the heck, 27 in that part wasn't that bad...it is actually worse further down (north bound).

We need to start 'yelling' with our tax dollars and votes.  Whomever decided to go with Wright Brothers construction should be voted out...fired.
