  • Thursday, May 11, 2017
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior Hannah Chamblin (Memphis, Tenn.) and freshman Nicole Buehrle (Sugarloaf, Pa.) advanced to the finals at the Southern Conference Championships Friday in Birmingham, Ala.

Chamblin earned all-conference honors last season with a second place finish in the 800 meter run. She finished with a time of 2:16.03 and was third in the second heat, earning a spot in the finals. Buehrle, in her first SoCon Outdoor Championships, ran the 1500 meter in a time of 4:55.71, just fast enough to find a spot in the finals.

“Both ran well to make it to the finals,” Chattanooga head coach Andy Meyer said.
“Julia and Abby both just missed out on qualifying.”

Freshman Julia Henderson (Brentwood, Tenn.) was just behind Buehrle in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:59.31 and freshman Hannah Caldwell (Brentwood, Tenn.) was next with a time of 5:06.58.

Freshman Abby Bateman (Jefferson City, Tenn.) finished outside of the qualifying with a time of 2:20.00 in the 800 meter run. Sophomore Madison Watson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was the next UTC runner across the line in a time of 2:34.50 followed by freshman Maddie Christian (Lenoir City, Tenn.) at 2:38.81.

Sophomore Haley Morris (Lenoir City, Tenn.) was the lone Chattanooga runner in the 3000 meter Steeplechase. She covered the obstacle-laden course in a time of 11:57.82.

“Haley, while she didn’t place, ran well in the steeplechase.”

Sophomore Mercedes Bright (Kingsport, Tenn.) ran both the 100- and 200 meter dashes for the Mocs. Freshman Kelsey Henry (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) posted a PR in the 200m at 28.92.

The Mocs will start Friday’s competition off with the 1500 meter finals at 10:50 a.m. Eastern time followed by the 800 meter finals at 12:10 p.m.

Junior Anna Kate Chance (Columbia, Tenn.), sophomore Brianna Nelson (Jefferson, Wis.) and freshman Rebekah Wich (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Sydney Gilliam (Brentwood, Tenn.) will run the 5000 meter at 1:10 p.m. Action will conclude with the 4x400 meter relay at 2 p.m.
