Dalton State Golf Still In The Hunt At TPC Deere Run

#3-ranked Dalton State had a solid day Thursday, shooting a (+12, 296) in the third round of the NAIA National Tournament at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, IL. The Roadrunner currently sit in 6th, 18-shots behind leader Cardinal Stritch (Wisc.

Junior Dalton Johnson led the Roadrunners with an (E, 71) for the round. Johnson got off to a good start with a birdie on No. 1. A dropped shot at No. 5 was backed up with a birdie at No. 8 that saw Johnson go out in (-1, 34). He would find trouble with bogeys at Nos. 13 and 15, but rallied late for a birdie at No. 18 to finish the back at (+1, 37)

S.M. Lee continued to have a great tournament with a (+2, 73). Lee dropped a shot on two, but pared Nos. 3-9 for a front 9 (+1, 35). His round got exciting on Nos. 13 and 14 with back-to-back birdies to push to 1-under. Double-bogeys on Nos. 15 and 17 would drop Lee to 3-over for the round, but big birdie on No. 18 would finish his back 9 in style.

P.J. Shields and Chase Cole shot a matching (+5, 76) in the third round. Each would have three bogeys on almost the exact holes on the front 9 as they each shot (+3, 37). Cole would counter three bogeys on the back with a birdie at No. 17, while Shields would birdie No. 16 to get back one of his three dropped shots on the back. Both would finish the final 9 on the day with identical (+2, 38) scores.

The final Roadrunner in the clubhouse is freshman Ben Rebne, who shot a (+7, 78) in his third round. Rebnewould struggle to find low numbers on a card that featured five bogeys and a double-bogey. He is tied for 73rdoverall.
