UCRA Mayhem is next week. The United Crate Racing Alliance gets ready for Round # 2 and # 3 of the 2017 championship season Friday and Saturday nights, May 12 and 13.
Fort Payne (Ala.) Motor Speedway opens up Friday with its $2,500 to-WIN “Blood, Sweat & Cheers” Mayhem opener. On Saturday, May 13, the Mayhem continues to Tennessee/Georgia's statelined Boyd’s Speedway as Chattanooga/Ringgold host their “E.A. Boyd Classix” 40 lap main event. This year’s UCRA season opener saw Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tn. dominate at I-75 Raceway, while UCRA Rookie of the Year candidate Jason Manley chased. Competitors of the UCRA battle for nearly $10,000 in posted prize money at each event and vie for more than $16,000 in posted prize money and accolades of the 2017 Championship Season.
Rusty Ballenger of Seymour, Tn. collected the $5,000 payday for the 2016 Championship Title. Alabama's Robert Gant, who pilots the single "blue oval" of a field of LM Performance 604 Crate powered machines, chased Ballenger the entire season in his "ProMaxx Ford" and seems to be hunting again for the championship. Local teenage sensation Lil' Sam Seawright picked up the UCRA Invitational Finale (worth $5,000) last October at Fort Payne and already has a season opener Super Late Model win under his belt. He and his brother J.T. will likely be in action over the weekend.
