James Edward “Jim” Taylor, Sr., 84, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
Jim was a native of Charleston, W.VA and had lived in Decatur for the past 38 years and a son of the late Felix and Angie Taylor. He was retired from the United States Army with over 20 years of service and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the Meigs Co. VFW Post 7189 and the AMVETS Post 90, Decatur and was a member of the Big Springs Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Noreen Taylor; a daughter, Debbie Taylor; a son, Robert Smiley, and two sisters, Ruby Holsten and Ruth Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Mary Taylor of Decatur, sons, James Edward Taylor, Jr. of Wasilla, AK and Robert J. Taylor of Kerrville, Tx., daughters, Sandra Allen of Kerrville, TX, and Robbie Dodd of Harrison, 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, in the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home.
