Phyllis M. Pearson, 91, of Hemel Hempstead, England, passed away in May, 2017 in Marietta, Georgia.

Phyllis, the daughter of George and Doris Minter was born on October 17, 1925 and raised in Hemel Hempstead, England. She was the World War II war bride of J. Atlee Pearson of Ooltewah, TN. They met and married while he was serving in the 8th Army Air Corp and stationed in Bovingdon, England. During the German bombardment of London, Phyllis and their young son, Keith, crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Mary to live with her husband’s family while awaiting Atlee’s release from a German POW camp following the end of the war. Phyllis became a proud American citizen in a naturalization ceremony in 1952. Phyllis was a long-time employee of TVA where she rose from her initial clerical position to management in TVA’s budget office. She was an active member of Northminster Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed volunteering weekly in the church office until her move to Roswell, GA.

Ms. Pearson was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, J. Atlee Pearson.

She is survived by her son, Keith Pearson; son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Trudy Pearson; five grandchildren, David Pearson, Sherri (Pearson) Thurman, Dana Pearson, Melanie (Pearson) Ward and Brandi Pearson; three great-grandchildren, Parker Pearson, Sarah Pearson, and Andrew Thurman; cousin Edward Cox and wife Irene of Hemel Hempstead, England. Her cheery disposition and loving manner will be missed by all.

Funeral services and visitation will be held at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 29, from 4-8 p.m. with services on Tuesday, May 30, at 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 4791 Hal Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
