Three Lee Runners Named To All District Team

The 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Teams has been released and three Lee University Lady Flames are included. First-team honorees for District 5 included Cayce Bryan, Amy Carpenter and Audrey Smith.

“Our women’s team did a great job getting it done in the classroom this semester with a 3.52 GPA,” said Lee head coach Caleb Morgan. “These are three of the women that led the way. They are all upperclassmen in tough majors. I am proud of the balance they have between athletics and academics.”

Bryan earned a 3.87 GPA as a Health Sciences major. Carpenter, a Mathematics major, carried a 3.91 mark, while Smith posted a 3.65 GPA in Biochemistry.

The trio were a part of the first Lady Flames squad to win the Gulf South Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship this spring. They also had a high level of success during the cross country season. The Lady Flames finished second in the GSC Women’s Cross Country Championship, third at the NCAA Division II South Region Championship and 28th in the program’s first trip to the NCAA DII National Championship.

The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America® honorees will be selected next month.
