Artist and visiting instructor at Townsend Atelier, Christopher Groves, will be giving a public artist talk about the creative process, Moving Outside of Your Comfort Zone. It will be held Friday, June 23, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Townsend Atelier, 301 East 11th St.
Through slides, Mr. Groves will discuss how artists progress and their creative intentions over a specific number of years in their careers, in order to analyze the change and what may have occurred in the way they paint. He will discuss getting into the mindset of artists to see what moves and pushes them outside their comfort zone, as well as various things an artist can do to help them move beyond the way they have been painting for years, while utilizing the same set of skills. Artists, art lovers, students and just the plain curious are all welcome to attend.
Mr. Groves studied at the Florence Academy of Art, Italy and the CAA Atelier Colorado– Classical Academy where he was lead landscape instructor from 2004-2008. He also has a BFA in Environmental Design/Architecture from Colorado University. He is a member of Oil Painters of America - Signature Membership, American Impressionist Society, American Society of Marine Artists – Signature Membership and Plein Air Painters of the Southeast. He has received numerous awards for his work and has exhibited world-wide.
