McCallie School has released a short film about alumnus Chris Lee, a member of the Class of 2013 and a cast member in the Chicago production of “Hamilton: An American Musical.”

Mr. Lee, an Atlanta native who attended Belmont University in Nashville as a Gates Millennium Scholar, has been performing in the dual roles of Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson at Chicago’s PrivateBank Theatre. His performance has been praised by critics and drawn huge crowds since opening in September 2016.

In the film on Mr. Lee shares his story of learning to love music during his time at McCallie. Mr. Lee was active in theater and music throughout his time as a boarding student. He performed in the McCallie/GPS co-ed musicals "Annie," "Hairspray," "Les Miserables" and "Footloose.” He also acted in productions of "The 25th Putnam County Spelling Bee" and "The Wedding Singer" while at McCallie.

The film, produced by McCallie’s office of Communications and Marketing, shows footage of Mr. Lee’s high school productions, a clip from his audition video for “Hamilton” and scenes of his life in Chicago.

“Hamilton” is the story of America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation’s first Treasury Secretary. The Broadway show has become a national phenomenon with its score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway musical styles.
