Creative Discovery Museum Celebrates Asian Cultures At Folk And Traditional Arts Event

  • Wednesday, June 14, 2017

This summer guests at Creative Discovery Museum will take a cultural journey around the world - no passport required. The Museum will host three Folk and Traditional Arts Events throughout the summer allowing children and their families to experience an array of art and music from different cultures presented by local and regional talent.  The series will kick off on Saturday, June 24, with a spotlight on Asian cultures.

"Chattanooga is a culturally rich city," said Liza Blair, arts manager.  "Our Folk and Traditional Arts Events will celebrate a sample of the different cultural art forms practiced in our city and surrounding areas.  These events also provide authentic, hands-on experiences that demonstrate how art brings all cultures together despite our differences.”

Many of the performances will allow children to interact with the artists and encourage audience participation.

Schedule of Performers:

12 p.m.: Korean Folkloric Dance with Heeju Han
1 p.m.: Chinese Folkloric Dance with Chattanooga Chinese Association Dance Group
1:30 p.m.: Japanese Bon Odori Dance
1:30 – 2:30 p.m.: Japanese Tanabata decoration with origami and bamboo
2 p.m.: Traditional Filipino Cooking Demonstration in Culinary Corner
3 p.m.: Filipino Folkloric Dance with Filipino American Association of Greater Chattanooga
