Hilda Rae Casteel, 95, of Fort Oglethorpe, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 23, 2017 at her residence.

Hilda was born on Nov. 9, 1921, to the late John W. and Maggie L. Ward. A member of a pioneer family, Hilda has resided in the North Georgia area all of her life. She was a charter member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She retired from Tri-County Hospital in Fort Oglethorpe, where she worked as a nurse’s aide. She enjoyed working with ceramic pottery, cooking, being a homemaker, raising children and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Casteel, her son, Joseph R. Casteel and her brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her sons, Clarence Richard Casteel and David Michael Casteel, one granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, at Fairview United Methodist Church with Reverend Ronald Ragon officiating. Interment will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Fairview United Methodist Church, 2112 McFarland Ave., Rossville, Ga. 30741.

The family will receive friends at the church from 12 p.m. until the service hour.

Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
