Anna Ruth Varner

Anna Ruth Varner, 94, of Soddy Daisy, left this life for her eternal heavenly home on Monday, June 26, 2017, where she was reunited with her beloved husband of 67 years, Rev. Gene Varner and many family members.

She served as a pastor’s wife beside her late husband almost their entire married life. Her heart’s desire was that everyone she came in contact with knew Jesus as their Lord and Savior and understood Jesus’s love for them. She was a great Christian witness and shared the gospel wherever she happened to be. Ruth especially loved teaching children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Her hobbies were sewing, gardening and canning vegetables. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who was loved by all and well known as a wonderful cook who prepared and shared fabulous meals.

Ruth was born Anna Ruth Stout to the late Garnett Haywood Stout, Sr. and Sally Lou Phipps Stout on April 23, 1923. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rev. Gene Varner; brothers, Haywood Stout, Jr. (Imogene), James K. Stout; sister, Jean Keesee Elliott (Sam and Joe); sons-in-law, Kenny Parker and Randy Smith and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Hughes (Garland); granddaughter, Sherri Miller (Randy); great grandchildren, Parker Steger (Shelby), Preston Steger, Kirsten Miller; loving sister, Mary Lou Wilson (Bobby); sister-in-law, Ruby Stout; brother-in-law, Clay Varner and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be on Thursday, June 29, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Charles McElhaney officiating. Entombment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is on Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday, from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Tennessee Baptist Children’s Home.

Condolences and memories can be shared at www.williamsonandsons.com.

Arrangements are by Williamson and Sons Funeral Home, 8852 Dayton Pike, Soddy Daisy, Tn. 37379.
