Wilma Hamilton
Wilma Jean Carden Hamilton, 86, a former resident of Cleveland, passed away on June 26, 2017, in Johnson City, Tennessee.
She was born on Sept. 3, 1930, in Bradley County. She was a member of Valley Head United Methodist Church for more than 65 years and filled many roles, including Sunday school teacher and church treasurer. Jean also held local and district level offices in the United Methodist Women. A graduate of Bradley Central High School and McKenzie Business School, she retired from the Bradley County Executive’s office.
Jean was a devoted wife for 58 years. She was a generous neighbor and friend, loving sister, aunt and cousin. Most of all, she was “Mother” and “Mamaw” – the heart of her family.
She was preceded in death by husband J. Paul Hamilton; sister, Sue Gaines; and parents Clifford and Nina Carden.
Survivors include her children, Joe Hamilton of Cleveland, Jan Powell of Chattanooga, Jeff Hamilton of Soddy Daisy and Jennifer (George) Blankenship of Elizabethton; grandchildren, Jessica (Shane) Fortner, Dylan Hamilton, Jacob Blankenship and Natalie Blankenship; great-granddaughter, Margot Fortner; siblings, Charlotte (Paul) Askew of Chattanooga and Carolyn Carden and Clifford (Gail) Carden Jr., all of Cleveland; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 30, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Jeff Hamilton, George Blankenship, Jacob Blankenship, Dylan Hamilton, Keith Askew, Tim Askew, Zachary Carden and Tom Cloud serving as pallbearers.
Her family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, at Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home.
