Trump Is Destroying Global Alliances On The Anniversary Of D Day - And Response

  • Tuesday, June 6, 2017

It is particularly infuriating and heartbreaking on this day, the 73rd anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, we watch as Trump destroys the relationships and alliances with our allies and friends.  D Day,  June 6, the time in history when we were blessed to have world leaders who were intelligent, mature, and ethical to support one another as they faced one of the most evil people in history.

I believe if Trump knew the history of World War II, if he understood what it meant to be the “Greatest Generation”, he would never consider insulting our friends and allies across the sea, especially on  this day of all days.

Then again, I believe that Trump is so invested in his own distorted reflection, so psychologically damaged and unfit for the Presidency, that he remains undaunted by the impact of his words and actions.

Perhaps if he could stand on the beaches where the water ran red with the blood of heroes from many countries, or visit St. Mere Eglise where the Chapel’s stained glass windows were redesigned after the war to include scenes of paratroopers dropping into the center of the courtyard to liberate the town.

And as I type, people are leaving the Notre Dame Cathedral with their hands up. This is not a time to criticize our friends in France. Maybe when the crisis is over, Trump should plan a visit to Notre Dame Cathedral, and as Perry Como used to say, “drop by church and bow a pious knee".
