The Georgia Northwestern Technical College Foundation is giving scholarship awards to one deserving student at each of its 31 high schools in the college’s nine-county Northwest Georgia service area.

High school administrators and GNTC Foundation Trustees said they have been busy during these last few weeks. Every scholarship winner is receiving a $250 award to help pay for the expenses of the first year of college.

"From GNTC employees donating to the foundation on all six of its campuses, to fundraising events in our communities throughout the year, the GNTC Foundation works hard to raise the funding for these scholarships," officials said.

The winners of the 2017 GNTC Foundation Scholarships are: Casandra Moore, Armuchee HS; Christopher Parker, Calhoun HS; John Zapp, Calhoun College and Career Academy; Chase Manning, Cedartown HS; Megan Hardin, Chattooga HS; Keely Valdiva, Coahulla Creek HS; Landis Yarbrough, Coosa HS; Whitney Craig, Dade County HS; Jose Villeda, Dalton HS; Erik Fitz, Floyd College and Career Academy; Martin Pineda, Gordon Central HS; Robin Reyes, Gordon County College and Career Academy; Amber Wallin, Gordon Lee HS; Cole Ryan, Heritage HS; Timothy Chamlee, Lafayette HS; Morgan Schaefer, Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe HS; Montana Wheeler, Model HS; Jordan Green, Murray County HS; Jacquelyn Reyes, Morris Innovative HS; Adriana Robertson, North Murray HS; Sierra Casteel, Northwest Georgia College and Career Academy; Samuel Weaver, Northwest Whitfield HS; Taineisha Brown, Pepperell HS; Guadalupe Adame, Phoenix HS; Braden Peace, Polk County College and Career Academy; Ashton Pritchett, Ridgeland HS; Karen Gray, Ringgold HS; Megan Bentley, Rockmart HS; Nyshaia Whatley, Rome HS; Thaley Jackson, Sonoraville HS; Cristian Antillon, Southeast Whitfield HS; and Jordan Floyd, Trion HS.

“We are truly honored to be welcomed into each of our high schools.

It’s a humbling opportunity to be allowed to help recognize our latest high school graduates on their accomplishments,” said GNTC Director of Institutional Advancement Jason Gamel. “We were blessed with a surprise donation this year. An anonymous donor asked to set up an alumni scholarship at one of our high schools that would award 11 graduates for their hard work and commitment to go to college. We’d love to partner with others about doing the same at their Alma Mater.”

The anonymous donor of this new annual gift was a graduate of Chattooga High School in Summerville, Ga. This is a gift that is scheduled to continue every year to this person’s Alma Mater. This gift allowed the GNTC Foundation to award $250 Chattooga Alumni Scholarships to the following Class of 2017 graduates: Alexis Ashworth, Ashlee Brumit, Meaghan Campbell, Talea Covington, Bradyn Elsberry, Jonathan Rape, Sydney Smith, Katlyn Sutton, Joshua Wyatt, Joshua York, and Billy Young.
