The Chattanooga Lookouts fell 4-2 to the Jackson Generals in 14 innings at AT&T Field Tuesday night. The game was the team's longest game of the year, clocking in at 4:17 with a 24 minute rain delay.
The loss sends the Lookouts into a tie for second place with the Tennessee Smokies.
Chattanooga scored first in this game, but Jackson seized the lead in the top of the fourth. An inning later the Lookouts tied the game on a Nick Gordon RBI single. Gordon finished the evening with four hits and two RBIs. The Southern League All-Star is now batting a team-high .305 on the year.
Gordon's RBI single was the last run the teams would score until the 14th inning.
Chattanooga starting pitcher Matt Tracy recovered from his two-run fourth inning and finished the night only allowing five hits in six innings.
The Lookouts bullpen carried the momentum with seven straight scoreless innings. Todd Van Steensel tossed two scoreless innings while Luke Bard and Mason Melotakis combined to strike out six batters in four shutout innings.
The scoring drought was broken in the top of the 14th inning by the Generals when Dawel Lugo hit a sacrifice fly. They tacked on one more run in the inning to seal the 4-2 victory.
Nick Anderson (0-1), who pitched the final two innings, was the losing pitcher.
