Mark Making has employed East Chattanooga teens to visually transform Glass St. with design work they created in Mark Making classes on Friday at 2:30 p.m., 2524 Glass St., across from Archway.
Lead by local artists Genesis the Greykid and Josiah Golson, teens explored neighborhood issues affecting their lives through poetry, such as poverty, gang violence, and racism, and then expressed solutions to these problems in graffiti inspired murals.
Teens discussed these issues with Councilwoman Demetrus Coonrod and wrote advocacy letters to local representatives.
The curriculum focused on work readiness and each teen received a stipend for their creative work.
Funding for Magic Markers is provided by The Lillian L. Colby Foundation and the George R. Johnson Foundation.
