Curtis, Edward Scott, Sr. (Etowah)

  • Monday, July 24, 2017

Edward Scott Curtis Sr., 70, a native of McMinn County, and a resident of Sumner, Mississippi went to be with our Lord on Friday, July 21, 2017.

He was loved by everyone who knew him and will be dearly missed.

Scott served in the U. S. Air Force from 1965 to 1967 and continued his service in the Air National Guard until 1978. In 1978 he was called into the ministry to share God’s love in ministry and song. Scott’s pastoral ministry carried him to Mississippi, Louisiana, California, Tennessee,  Florida, and was currently pastoring the Sumner Church of God in Sumner, MS. He loved his church and church family greatly.

His family was the highlight of his life, teaching his grandchildren their ABR’s, how to eat ice cream the “right” way, the proper way to take “selfies”, how to do their hair, how to tell the same jokes over and over again, how to wave goodbye and the importance of eating a good breakfast of fried spam.

Scott left behind a wonderful legacy to his family and will be dearly missed by them as well as all those that he touched throughout his full life.

He is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Odetta Curtis; brothers Billy, James and Harold Curtis; sisters, Eva Blevins, Carrie Presley and an infant sister, Linda.

Scott leaves behind to cherish his memory two sons and their families, Scott (Peggy) Curtis of Englewood, TN, and Eric (Kristy) Curtis of Groves, TX; eight grandchildren, Jenna, Taylor (Jessie), Derrick, Hunter, Khristian, Hailey and Elijah; one great-grandson, Preston; Brothers Charles Curtis of Etowah, TN, Jerry Curtis of Hersey, MI, and a sister, Mary Newman of Etowah, TN; and girlfriend, Linda Smith (Drew, MS); as well as extended family and friends from several states.

A celebration of life service is planned for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, at the Serenity Funeral Home & Cremation Center Chapel at 300 North Tennessee Avenue, with the Reverend Wayne Fritts and Reverend Zach Davis officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5–7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Sumner Church of God, P.O. Box 297, Sumner, MS 38957, where Scott most recently pastored.

Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Etowah is in charge of the arrangements.
