Korean War Veteran Retired From Chevron Oil

Evans Matthew Shelby, 88, of Ooltewah, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017, in a local hospital.

He was the son of the late Arthur and Merle Shelby and was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Susan Renee Shelby, and three siblings, Helen Wilson, Rhomas Shelby and Nan Glazier.

Evans was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country as a combat engineer in the Korean Conflict. He retired as a drafting supervisor with Chevron Oil with over 20 years of service.        

He was a member of Collegedale Community Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Shelby, four children, Carol Shelby, Donald Shelby, Christi Shelby, all of Ooltewah, Connie (Michael) Brandt, of Chattanooga, four grandchildren, Lauren Shelby, Summer Shelby, Cole Shelby, Arron East, and several nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at noon on FridayJuly, 28, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Arnold officiating.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, at the funeral home.
