The 2016-17 Covenant volleyball team picked up one more team honor as it was recognized as a Team Academic Award recipient from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

It is the third time in the last four years that Covenant has collected academic honors from the AVCA.

The award, celebrating its 25th year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
A record 822 programs earned honors this year, including 150 NCAA Division III members.

Covenant was one of four USA South institutions to earn recognition this year joining Maryville, North Carolina Wesleyan and Piedmont.

Covenant finished the 2016 season with a 19-13 overall record and a USA South West Division regular season championship.

The Lady Scots open the 2017 season on Sept. 1 against Sewanee in Birmingham, Ala.
