Lookouts Open Homestand Tuesday With 9-4 Win Over Birmingham

The last place Birmingham Barons fell victim to a six-run sixth inning uprising that lifted the first place Chattanooga Lookouts to Tuesday night's 9-4 win  -- their 24th win of the second half. The Lookouts have 12 wins at home and 12 wins on the road.

Starting pitcher Stephen Gonsalves allowed just three hits over 5 2/3 innings. Gonsalves (7-3) allowed two runs while striking out six and walking three to get the win. The Twins top pitching prospect has struck out 88 hitters in 74 innings.

He has a 2.78 earned run average.

Andy Wilkins homered in the second inning giving Chattanooga an early 1-0 lead. Wilkins had three hits and drove in two runs. Overall, the Lookouts had 11 hits.

Birmingham tied the game 1-1 in the fourth after Tito Polo hit an RBI double, scoring Jose Vinicio.

Leading 3-2, the Lookouts added to their lead with six runs in the sixth inning, including two RBI each from Carlos Paulino and LaMonte Wade.

The Barons Jordan Stephens (1-3) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs and five hits in a losing effort.. He also struck out three and walked five.

Randy Rosario, who took over for Gonsalves, threw 2 1/3 innings giving up two runs on four hits.

Nick Anderson pitched the ninth inning. He set the Barons down in order while striking out two.

The Lookouts will be back in action against the Barons Wednesday night. Game time is 7:15 p.m. Chattanooga's Kohl Stewart (4-4) faces the ace of the Barons' rotation, Michael Kopech.
