Betty Jean Elizabeth James, 78, of Chattanooga, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the residence of her daughter.  

She was a long-time member of Greater New Emmanuel Apostolic Church. She was a minister of music who sang for many of our local churches. She was a minister of God and a prayer warrior.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Ruby Martin, Sr.; brothers, Aaron Martin, Jr. and Reuben Martin. 

Survivors include her husband, John James; children, Deborah James, Rodney Jerome (Roberta) James, and Sylvia James, all of Chattanooga; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bobby (Charon) Martin of Las Vegas, NV and Ernest (Mildred) Martin of Cartersville, Ga.; sisters, Ethel Johnson, Eddie Dorothy Miller, Catherine Martin, Marilyn Martin, all of Cartersville, Ga., Evelyn (David) Moore of Cassville, GA, and Rita (Anthony) Mitchell of Kennesaw, Ga.; uncles, Joseph White and Clifford White, both of Cartersville, Ga.; aunt, Peggy Lewis of Chattanooga; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends. 

Visitation is on Thursday, July 27, from 6-8 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home. Funeral service is on Friday, July 28, at noon at Greater New Emmanuel Apostolic Church. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
