William "Rex" Smith
William “Rex” Smith, born December 24, 1940, passed away on July 26, 2017 at the age of 76.
Rex was a lifelong resident of Soddy Daisy, a retired veteran of the United States Air Force, and a longtime electrician with the local IBEW 175. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Chauncey Smith, grandson, William Jordan Schwenk, and parents, William Claude and Elizabeth “Lib” Smith.
Rex is survived by his sons, Michael (Carolyn) Smith of Toronto, Canada and Gale Lee Smith, daughter, Regina (Brian) Schwenk, and a grandson, Samuel Smith. He is also survived by his siblings, Sam (Teresa) Smith, Renee Trent, Barry (Katy) Smith, Claudette Hollis, Rodney (Cathy) Smith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, July 29, at 2 p.m. with Grant Chauncey, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Varner cemetery.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 28, and again on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a trust has been set up for his handicapped son, Gale Lee. Any monies can be sent to his daughter, Regina Schwenk, or it can be hand delivered to the Soddy Daisy branch of First Tennessee Bank.
