Bennifield Named To CFPA Watch List

University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior quarterback Alejandro Bennifield was named to the College Football Performance Awards 2017 FCS National Performer of the Year Watch Trophy Watch List this week. 

Bennifield is entering his season year as the starting quarterback for the Mocs.  He is a second team preseason All-Southern Conference selection after finishing second in the league and No. 11 in the FCS with 26 passing touchdowns in 2016. 

A southpaw with a strong arm, Bennifield was second in the SoCon and No. 12 in the FCS with a 152.6 pass eff. Rating.  He was also third in the conference and No. 20 in the FCS in points responsible for (14.8) and third in the league and No. 10 in the FCS in completion % (64.4%). 

The list includes forty-two returning performers from the Football Championship Subdivision. The 2017 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy is a 22-inch K-9 optic crystal tower with eight-inch crystal football on top. All FCS players are eligible for the award. The award winner will be announced January 10, 2018. 

The Mocs are preparing for the season opener against Jacksonville State. The two teams square off Saturday, Aug. 26, at 6:30 p.m. (EDT) in Montgomery, Ala., in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff Classic. Tickets are on sale now on GoMocs.com.
